The sun breaks through the clouds after a storm
I.

Between marsh and sea, we walk:
Winchelsea to Fairlight.

A view across the marsh to Paul McCartney's Windmill studio
II.

Pebbles shift beneath our feet
as the backwash rattles the shingle.

We watch gulls rise, glide
and descend on the breeze that
races in from the sea.

The beach at low tide
III.

Massed wooden soldiers guard the shore.

A row of wooden groynes on the shore
IV.

Whilst lone sentinels keep vigil,
aged by time and tide.

Waves splash against a single silhouetted groyne
V.

Solitude briefly gains company.

Two people sitting in chairs on an empty pebble beach
VI.

Things left behind
colour our journey.

A lost shoe tied to a railing by the sea
VII.
A bunch of flowers placed in the pebbles on the shore
VIII.

Lengthening shadows all too soon
signal its end.

Long shadows cast by a wooden groyne as the sun sets
IX.

Last light sinks towards the marshes
as this day closes.

The sun begins to set over the Pett Level Marshes
